Classroom Rules and Procedures

Come prepared to learn

Arriving to class on time with all the materials you need shows that you have arrived ready to learn.  If you need to borrow a pencil, extra can be found in the color pencil bin. 

This is an educational environment.  The limited time you have in this room is valuable and important to all the students in the classroom.  You should be physically and mentally present when the class meets.  Distractions from social events outside of class should stay there.  Use your time wisely and effective towards you educational goals and you will be success.  If your behavior becomes to distraction to your education or the education of others you will be sent to time out of the remainder of the period.  

Etiquette - Be aware of you surrounds at all times and be conscious of how your actions effect others. 

Etiquette - be mindful of the volume and tone of your voice when speaking to others.   You speak louder than you think when you have headphone on (remove them)  

Etiquette - You should not call out or try to have a conversations with someone who is more than an arms length away from you.  

Etiquette - Keep you hands to yourself.  Do not touch other people or their property. 

 

Personal items

Students will need a large desk top spaces available to them and book bags on the floor are a safety issue.  A wire rack has been make available by the classroom windows for students to store personal items during the class period.   Book bags, pocketbooks and silenced cell phones should be placed in those bags on this rack when students enter the room. 

Cell Phones 

  • Personal devices (Phones etc.) should be stored in your bags at all times.
  • Electrical charging of cell phones and personal equipment during class is not permitted.
  • Students are not to listen to their music during class.  

Passes out of class 

No passes the first or last 10 minutes of the period.

Only one student is permitted to leave the room at any given time.

The bathroom pass must be returned within 5 minutes. 

If you are out of the room for more an 5 minutes you will be written up for:

  • loitering, 6-18 minutes
  • Class cut, more than 18 minutes. 

To use the bathroom pass you must write the current time and your fist name (clearly) on the board.  You may then take the magnetic bathroom pass.  

When you return, put the pass back on the board.  Students should not erase the names from the board until the list reaches the bottom. 

Other exit passes

If you with to go to your locker, guidance or other destination you will need to complete a hand written pass for the instructor to sign.  Passes should include the date, time, destination and student’s name. 

Etiquette - Other students may be patiently waiting use the restroom.  Do not loiter in the halls. 

Food and drink

Food and drink are permitted in class.  Keep in mind that this is a science lab room.  Table tops, keyboards and iPads are not clean.  You should wash you hand before eating. 

Etiquette  -  Snacks are permitted but a full meal is inappropriate.   

Clean up after yourself, do not leave your trash for the next class.  This includes all wraps and crumbs.

Technology use

All technology in the room is to be used for educational purposes. 

Students using devices for non-educational purposes such as listening the music, watching videos for entertainment or playing games will be immediately sent to time out for the remainder of the period.  

iPads may be taken from the cabinet when needed and should be returned to the cabinet when not in use so that other students may use them during the period. 

A cloth and cleaning spray is located by the iPad cabinet so that students can disinfect the iPads between use.  These can also be used to disinfect the computer keyboard and mice as well. 

You are NOT permitted to: 

  • change any device settings
  • authorize software updates  
  • change device wallpaper 
  • delete internet or device histories 
  • operate the web browser in incognito or private mode

Students are to delete their work from the classroom devices before the end of the period.  This includes but it not limited to picture and documents you have created.  If you need to save your work a copy should be moved to your cloud service account such as dropbox or google drive. 

Students are to logoff on any website or software that was used.  You need to protect your accounts.

Personal devices are not to be using during class without the expressed permission from the instructor.   Using personal devices without approval will lead to the student being sent to time out for the remainder of the period.  

Headphone use

The use of headphones will be required as many the online activities will have videos with sound.   It is recommended that students bring their own headphone for use in class.  If students do have have their own, headphones may be borrowed from the tan bin on the wire supply rack.  3.5mm cable splitters are also available in this location for students who wish to use two sets of headphone with one device.  Borrowed headphones should be returned with their cables wrapped around them to avoid tangles.  

Reminder - Students should NOT listen to their music during class.  

Etiquette -  The use of headphone is ANTISOCIAL.  Take them out when your done the educational activity. 

Etiquette - When speaking to your instructor you should remove your headphones from your ears.  

 

End of class procedures

iPads are to be returned to their cabinet before the end of class bell. They are to be inserted so that their screen faces to the left and their charge port faces out.

Students should return all materials to their correct location and wipe down the desktop with disinfectant if necessary. 

Students are to remain by their seats until the dismissal bell rings.  Students are not permitted to gather by the door or leak into the hallway as it get closer to dismissal time. 

Etiquette - Do not expect others to pick up after you.  Clear you work area and check under your desk for trash before you leave.

Disposing of trash 

There is a large trash can by the door to the room and a smaller one by the lab material rack.   There is also a paper recycling bin next to the scanner.    

Etiquette - Disposing of trash is NOT A sport.  Do not throw trash as if you are making a 3 point shot.  Dispose of trash quietly without an audience
